Peaks 3, Sheep… several thousand, probably

Well, the ‘kids’ were tackling the Three Peaks in the Yorkshire Dales this weekend. Camping over last night, then starting at 8am this morning.

Not me, of course; I got the train out of Leeds just before 11am, with the intention of meeting them for lunch near Inglebrough an hour or so later. Naturally, the train was late, and I caught up with them just as they were heading out onto the second peak, but still managed to hand over the camera and new camcorder, then find the minibus which was looking after the first set of retirees. Which then headed off to The Old Hill Inn, for lunch, a few beers and a wait to meet them off the second hill, before going back into Horton-in-Ribblesdale and waiting for the intrepid explorers to do the final hill.

Now, that’s *my* idea of hill-walking!

Democracy in action

Polling Day today – one of my favourite days in the calendar.

Think about it: it’s the only time you, the elector, is asked to actually take part in the political process. And it’s the one time you actually get to feel connected to political life. You walk to your local polling station, get your polling slip and cast your vote. Who needs postal voting? This is just so much more involving.

Fit, fab & forty!

Oh well… one out of three ain’t bad!

Apparently, I share my birthday with Therese Russell and Spike Lee (both 50), Holly Hunter, Steve McFadden, William Hurt, Vera Lynn, Michael Redgrave, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Henrik Ibsen and Ovid. And lots of other people, too. And Einstein published his General Theory of Relativity today in 1913.

And my lovely colleagues, bless them, raided this very web site for pictures to stick up on the walls around the office and lifts. Gosh, but it looks good!

Tree-mendous!

Yes… I’ve bought my first Christmas tree. Never, ever had one before while living on my own (and this is the second extended period of alone-living I’m in in the last 20 years). But there’s actually space in the living room now for a five-footer, standing on a small table, with the lights built-in. Now, if only I had some decorations…

The Cellar of Dorian Grey

So I’m working on doing up my house (I may have mentioned this earlier). But where do all the unwanted shelves, tables and other bits & pieces go? Well, into the cellar for storage.

The problem, of course, is that the smaller part of the cellar already has shelving for various files, paint tins, tools and toolbox, plus the CDs and DVDs, at least temporarily. That means everything from the upstairs rooms is just being dumped in the main part of the cellar. As upstairs gets beautified, so the cellar has to take on all the evils 🙂

Awww!

Back now from my nephew’s christening (well, one of the nephews, anyway).

Brother David and Nephew Ollie.

Good grief!

Got an email today, telling me that the web site I manage for 59 Squadron has been short-listed for an award: a CIPR (Yorkshire & Lincolnshire) PRide award!

I’m… shocked.

You can read more about the awards at www.cipr.co.uk/prideawards. Posh dinner to look forward to in November then!

Party on!

Well, there you go… one 3,000-word essay and one 2,000-word critique finished, and to be hand-delivered to TASC tomorrow. Although, if we’re being strictly accurate I did take advantage of the ±10% guideline. I think you can guess which way, too…

Still, time to relax now, next (and final) module is in April 2007. Better check the resubmission dates though… just in case…
